Scope and Contents This is the original manuscript of a farmān, or royal order, of the Emperor Abū al-Naṣr Mu'īn al-Dīn Muḥammad Akbar-Shāh II (d. at the age of about 80 years in 1253 A.H., 1837 C.E., at Dehli), conferring upon Colonel John Baillie, British Resident at the Court of Oudh, the three titles of "'Imād al-Dawlah, Afẓal al-Mulk Bahādur, Arslan Jang." Scope and Contents This is an original MS. of a farmān [royal order] that, like OR MS 124, confirms honorary titles upon Colonel John Baillie, British Resident at the Court of Oudh. This order bears the name of Shāhzādah Mīrzā Muḥammad Jahāngīr at the top, and it was issued on the 19th Sha'ban, 1222 A.H. (22nd October, 1807 C.E.), in the first year of the reign of Emperor Abū al-Naṣr Mu'īn al-Dīn Muḥammad Akbar-Shāh II (d. 1253 A.H., 1837 C.E., at Dehli). This ...

An inscription in English on the back states that this letter of the Nawwāb (Mīr Ja'far of Bengal) to Lord Clive was given by the latter to a Mr. William Hanbury, who gave it to Mr. J. T. Samuell 1762 C.E. The substance of the letter, however, does not show that it was sent by the Nawwāb. The probability is that it was written by "Omi-chand" (whose proper name was Amīr-Chand), and contains an appeal from the banker for the payment of his claims.

This volume contains transcriptions of a collection of 869 letters, dispatches, etc., which were sent to the Nawwāb Vazīr al-Mumālik Sa'adat 'Alī Khān of Oudh by Colonel John Baillie, British Resident at Lucknow, between the 2nd Jumādā I, 1222 A.H. (9th July, 1807 C.E.), and the 28th Zulḥijjah, 1224 A.H. (4th February, 1810 C.E). The contents of these letters are miscellaneous and deal with the affairs of the Ṣūbah of Oudh.

A large collection of transcriptions of 1488 letters, which were originally sent to the Nawwāb Vazīr al-Mumālik Sa'adat 'Alī Khān of Oudh by Colonel John Baillie, British Resident at Lucknow, between the 1st Muḥarram, 1225 A.H. (6th February, 1810 C.E.), and the 28th Zulḥijjah, 1227 A.H. (2nd January, 1813 C.E.). The contents of these letters relate mostly to the subjects mentioned in the description of OR MS 127-129. Scope and Contents These are copies of 34 letters. The first, dated 28th December, 1810 C.E., was sent by Lord Minto, the Governor-General, to Nawwāb Vazīr al-Mumālik Sa'adat 'Alī Khān of Oudh. It referred to the disturbed state of the maḥallāt (districts) of Partābgarh and Sulṭānpūr, for the pacification of which the assistance of the English troops had (apparently) often been sought.
